Monday, May 29

  • There was no major development on this date.

Tuesday, May 30

  • The United Nations Security Council extended its sanctions against South Soudan for another year. (Here)

  • The Security Council Committee pursuant to resolution 751 (1992) concerning Al-Shabaab announced the addition of one individual to its list of sanctions targets. (Here) The Committee also updated its Implementation Assistance Notice. (Here)

  • The EU Council added the names of five individuals to its list of sanctions under its Moldova sanctions regime for the first time. (Council Decision, press release)

  • The EU Council imposed asset-freezing sanctions against two individuals pursuant to its Ukraine/Russia sanctions regime. (Council Decision)

  • OFAC imposed asset-freezing sanctions against three individuals and two entities for providing financial support to the Syrian regime. (Here, the Department of the Treasury's press release, and the Department of State's press release)

  • OFAC imposed asset-freezing sanctions against nine individuals and eight entities for their role in a network that provides equipment used to produce illicit drugs. (Here, the Department of the Treasury's press release, and the Department of State's press release) The designations package included the email addresses of sanctioned individuals and entities. It is essential to use those for screening your user base, if applicable to you.

  • The UK's government published the Common High Priority Items List. The list includes Western items critical to Russian weapons systems and its military development. The list is expected to be updated from time to time. The UK's government urged the public to be vigilant when dealing with the listed items. (Here)

Wednesday, May 31

  • OFSI imposed asset-freezing sanctions against one individual pursuant to its Somalia sanctions regime. (Here)

  • France imposed asset-freezing sanctions against three individuals under its autonomous counter-terrorism sanctions program. (Here)

  • OFAC issued General License 69 under its Russia sanctions program. The new General License Authorizes certain debt securities servicing transactions involving International Investment Bank. (Here)

  • In a non-sanctions-related development, the U.S. Department of State has concluded an administrative settlement with VTA Telecom Corporation, to resolve six violations of the Arms Export Control Act, and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations for unauthorized exports to Vietnam. (Here)

Thursday, June 1

Friday, June 2

  • OFAC imposed asset-freezing sanctions on a tech company in Iran, one of its affiliates in the UAE, and two of its senior employees for being involved in internet censorship in Iran. OFAC also issued a wind-down General Licenses related to the recently designated entities. (Here, the Department of the Treasury's press release, and the Department of State's press release)

  • The Department of State imposed travel restrictions on the former Haitian Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, for his involvement in significant corruption pursuant to section 7031(c) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2023.
